When I was little, my absolute favorite baby gifts were plush toys. I would snuggle up to the soft toys on my bed each night and fall asleep in the paws of my plush tiger. I carried that tiger with me everywhere I went – a toy that was bigger than me at the time! And then my sister was born. And suddenly, she was the one getting all the cuddly baby gifts.
One good thing that came out of seeing someone else getting all the baby gifts is being able to now remember which gifts my newborn sister loved and which ones ended up under the bed…forever. When my sister was born, our aunt presented her with a Barbie doll. What a newborn would do with a Barbie doll, I don’t know. Actually, I guess I do. A newborn, as it turns out, would rip its head off and chew and slobber all over its arm. Baby gifts that involve small, detachable parts simply aren’t too great for a baby.
That day, my sister also got an adorable plush husky. The husky would be her best friend for quite a few years to come. And how could it not be? It was soft, cuddly, big, and when my sister wanted to mumble to it something that made no sense to anyone else, the plush husky would sit and listen. When my sister would be forced to eat something disgustingly healthy that she didn’t like, the husky was the first to know about it. When our mom made us sit on the balcony to get fresh air, the husky was right there, getting the fresh air with us.
Plush toys are by far my favorite baby gifts. But obviously, if everyone was giving every newborn plush toys for various occasions, the house would be teeming with them. Besides, you need to put all of those toys somewhere, right? This is why willow baskets and willow hampers designed especially for nurseries make excellent baby gifts. They will surely make the parents’ lives a bit easier by giving them a place to store all of the soft pandas, bunnies, and other such toys that their newborn is presented with for every occasion. The under crib storage baskets are great for smaller toys and are a great convenience that can be hidden away.
Of course, an alternative to getting a newborn a toy puppy is to get her a real one. But let’s not start handing out puppies to friends’ babies as newborn baby gifts without consulting the parents first.
